What's involved

What Kitchen Design & Planning in Hemel Hempstead involves

01

Measured survey first

Actual measurements, including the out-of-square bits, before any layout is drawn.

02

Two or three layouts

Options with honest trade-offs, not one plan presented as the only answer.

03

What the room will not take

An island needs clearance the room may not have. We will say so early rather than let you fall in love with it.

04

Priced properly

The design comes with a real price, including the trades. A design without a price is a sales tool.

05

Space reclaimed

Old larders and understairs cupboards brought into the kitchen footprint where the structure allows.

The original kitchens in the Hemel new-town housing are small, and most of the good work here is getting more out of the same footprint rather than adding to it. That starts with a proper measured survey, because a plan drawn from a showroom sketch is where the expensive surprises come from.

In the new-town houses of Adeyfield, Bennetts End and Gadebridge the kitchen was designed for one person cooking, usually with the dining room next door. A good redesign often opens the two up, or reclaims space from a larder or understairs cupboard.

Asked about Kitchen Design & Planning

Do you charge for the design?

No, and there is no obligation. We would rather design something you can afford and have you come back than produce a plan that only works on paper.

Can I get an island in?

In most of the original Hemel kitchens, honestly, no. You need about a metre of clearance all round for it to work rather than get in the way. A peninsula often gives you the same worktop and prep space in half the room.

Should I move the sink or the boiler?

You can, and it is worth pricing, but moving services is where kitchen budgets disappear. We will show you a layout that keeps them and one that moves them, with both prices, and let you decide.

Can the old larder become part of the kitchen?

Often, yes. A larder wall is usually a light partition, and removing it adds useful floor space for tall units or a fridge. It is checked first to confirm it is not carrying load.

Is it worth opening the kitchen into the dining room?

In most Hemel new-town houses it makes the biggest difference of any change, turning two small rooms into one usable space. The opening is structural work for a builder, so the kitchen is designed around it from the start.
